Hi everybody,

The CYCC is one of the best traditions in Canadian chess.

The event takes place every year as the best young players in Canada compete to be crowned “The Best”.

In recent years, the under 8 category has been added to the previously existing under 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 age groups.

In each age group, the girls and boys sections are separated.

In 2010, the CYCC will take place in Windsor, Ontario, from the 6th to the 9th of July.

John Coleman is doing an excellent job organizing the event, which will be a lot of fun and includes a lot of side events and excursions.

The tournament website is:

I attended the CYCC last year in Victoria, as a guest of honour, and will be doing the same this year.

I will be doing a mixture of events, most likely including lectures, a simul, a Q&A, as well as postmortems.

You will have a chance to play and analyze with me.

A formal schedule of my events should come out soon.

The CYCC is a rare opportunity to see Canada’s future come together.

It is a great opportunity to test yourself against the best and meet other young players from across the country.

I played in the CYCC in 2001, 2002 and 2005.

I won the CYCC each time.

The biggest prize on the line is qualifying for the WYCC.

Any young player who is serious about chess should, if opportunity permits, try to qualify for the WYCC.

There is no tournament like it. Testing your skills against the best in the world is priceless.

When I participated in the WYCCs and the European Youth Chess Championship (for Israel), I got to play the likes of Hikaru Nakamura, Teimour Radjabov, and Nikita Vitiugov.

All three are currently over 2700, and the experience was a great one, the result was not:).

The CYCC promises to be a great one this year.

I hope to see you in Windsor!
